"Music gives me an outlet

to present ideas and experiences

I wouldn’t otherwise be able to express or talk about."

Karen Emeny grew up in London, Ontario.  Since the age of six she has been playing guitar, and took an interest in singing and songwriting in her pre-teen years. As Karen's sound matured and became more defined, she decided it was time to play open mic nights at London's bar/restaurant Rockwater when she was eighteen. Karen would play weekly until branching out in her third year at King's University College by playing at coffeehouses and charity events.  From there, Karen began playing the open mic nights at The London Music Club. She had the opportunity to record an original song for their compilation CD in 2009. That same year, Karen worked with Matt Magni to record a 4-song EP titled Finding The Words. "I have been writing music for a long time, compiling songs about different aspects of my life, both the good and bad. My writing has changed, altered, and grown over the past few years, and I found myself wanting to record a few songs so that I could have them available in their entirety the way that I envisioned them being performed. Finding The Words was a 2009 summer project of mine, with the help of Matt Magni who produced and engineered the 4 song EP. Each song represents a different experience or story that I wanted to tell, allowing listeners to gain a sense of the sound, stories, and writing style that encompasses who I am, and what I stand for.

Since then, Karen has been a regular performer in the front room of The London Music Club, and has had the opportunity to play other venues around London, as well as in North Bay. “I love all aspects of performing. Even as nervous as I get it is an adrenaline rush, especially when people come up to me and say they can relate to my music.”
